Welcome to Term 2, Week 4 Newsletter
The school has been busy with lots of activity. We had some new classrooms delivered near the Year 5/6 area and lots of important learning happening in and out of the classrooms. It is wonderful to see students use every day as an opportunity to learn and discover.
At Zuccoli we are committed to fostering a culture of great learning. Learning is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about igniting curiosity, nurturing creativity and empowering our students to reach their full potential.
It is wonderful to see students display enthusiasm for learning each and every day. Whether it’s through classroom discussions, researching information, developing Maths skills or learning to read, our students are embracing the joy of learning.
I would like to extend appreciation to our dedicated teachers and support staff, who are always committed to nurturing and developing our students into lifelong learners.
Transportable Classrooms
Exciting news! Two of our transportable classrooms have arrived. The students were thrilled to see a ‘big’ crane at the school moving the transportable classrooms to their new location. It will be fantastic to have all the Year 5/6 classes in one area of the school.
Illnesses
At the moment, there has been an increase in illnesses at our school. Please keep your child at home if your child is unwell and inform the office.
One of our key objectives at our school is to maintain uninterrupted learning for your child, even during unexpected situations like teacher absences. Due to a national shortage of relief teachers, we may have to send students to other classes for the day. In such cases, students will engage in activities that will review previously taught concepts and skills or if placed in the same year level will participate in the split class learning activities.
Please be assured that we are proactively taking measures to minimise the disruptions to your child’s learning journey.
We appreciate your support on this matter.
Cross Country Friday – May 17th
Get ready to lace up those running shoes because our Cross Country event is fast approaching. We encourage everyone to participate and give it their best. We are looking forward to a fantastic event filled with fun and good sportsmanship.
If there are any parents who can help with the stations around the course, please contact the front office.
Thank you to Mr Lonergan for organising the event.
Mother’s Day
This weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day. We wish all the incredible mothers out there a day filled with love, joy and appreciation and thank those who attended our Mother's Day morning tea on Wednesday.
To our students, take a moment to appreciate the special women in your life. Whether it’s a hug, a thank you, or a handmade card, let’s show them how much they mean to us.
Our Mother's Day stall in the library has been a huge success. Thank you to Mrs Panatos for organising this event.

Learning in our class has been in full swing!
In Week 1 this Term, we shared what we did during our one-week holiday. Each student then wrote a recount about their holiday. Have a look at some recounts below!
In Art, we have begun learning about different art mediums. We read the book The Dot and discussed different colours and art mediums such as, pencils, oil pastels, water colour and chalk. Students then chose different mediums to colour in their dot. Students displayed an interest in the use of watercolours, particularly when mixing colours and creating more colours!
Transition Owens has been learning how to create different sounds with our bodies during our music lessons. We can use all parts of our bodies to make sounds, including our hands, feet, mouths and bodies. We have been combining all of the sounds we can make to make music. Our music can be loud and fast, or quiet and slow.
In Transition Lane during our Maths lessons students have been exploring Patterns. Students have created patterns using different coloured counting dinosaurs and bears and shape blocks to create repetitive patterns.
During our Visual Arts lessons in Term 1 students learnt how to create collages using coloured paper as the medium. In remembrance of ANZAC Day, students demonstrated their learnt collage skills to create beautiful poppies. The poppies were then used with photos of the student’s hands to create amazing pictures for our ANZAC Day.
In Garden classes, all students in Year 5 and 6 have been learning about the complexity of soil and how different soil and potting mixes impacts general plant health and produce production. Earlier this term, some of our Year 5 and 6 classes had the privilege of meeting and learning from local farmer, Mike from Organic Ag. Mike spoke to the students about the importance of healthy soil and organic farming. We also got out into the garden with Mike where we planted some watermelons and continued rich discussions on growing produce in the NT. Zuccoli Primary School is grateful for the time Mike took from his busy day to share his knowledge with us and inspire our students. If you or your family wish to enjoy some organic fruit and vegetables, please visit Organic Ag at the Fred’s Pass Markets on Saturday mornings or visit their website. Developing relationships and connections with local businesses is a wonderful experience for our students, the school and wider community. If you or someone else you know, can share knowledge or experiences around gardening, cooking, birds, insects or sustainability practises please contact the Kitchen Garden Team at Zuccoli Primary School.

What is your favourite Sporting Team?
Don’t have a favourite team.
What is a place that you have visited that you would like to revisit and why?
Probably Mary Kings Close in Scotland, It is a medieval street that Edinburgh was built on top of. You can visit and go back in time.
What is one thing you still have from when you were a child?
School awards and work.
If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be and why?
Jack Black would have some good dinner stories.
If you were to give one book to all your friends, what would it be and why?
The Silmarillion, so all my friends can be as confused as I am.
What is your favourite Sporting Team? NSW in the State of Origin
What is a place that you have visited that you would like to revisit and why? The Whitsundays for a honeymoon redo because my husband was sick for the entire week of our actual honeymoon.
What is one thing you still have from when you were a child? My Rubik’s Magic Folding Puzzle where you link and unlink the 3 rings by folding and unfolding it in a certain sequence.
If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be and why? My family because they are my favourite people.
If you were to give one book to all your friends, what would it be and why? The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson because every bookshelf needs great adventures that can be shared with children.
What is your favourite Sporting Team?
I don’t follow a sporting team, but love watching the Olympics.
What is a place that you have visited that you would like to revisit and why?
Portugal. My husband is Portuguese and all his family live there. It is hard living so far away from beautiful family. When I’m with my family in Portugal it always feels magical, and I know I am creating core memories with my children. Plus, the food, OMG!!!
What is one thing you still have from when you were a child?
I loved writing when I was younger and always kept a diary. They are entertaining to read back through now, but they also help me better understand my 16-year-old daughter.
If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be and why?
Maybe my younger self so I can help guide/prepare her for a better future.
If you were to give one book to all your friends, what would it be and why?
The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse. It’s such a lovely book with simple messages everyone can relate to.
