We are nearly at the end of the term. This term has flown by with lots of learning happening all over the school. As we get closer to the end of the term, all our teachers have been busy writing reports to celebrate our students’ progress and achievements. We look forward to sharing these moments of growth with you.
PIE Programs - Prevention, Intervention and Extension
Every Friday many of our students are involved in some engaging programs outside of their regular classroom environment. Our specialist and SET teachers who have expertise in a variety of learning areas work with many of our students by building on their unique interests, skills and talents. The programs are a great way to develop and support our students’ health and wellbeing.
All the students who participate enjoy attending the Friday sessions. The programs that we offer include:
- The Physical Education Extension Group with Mr Lonergan – Students undergo circuit training to improve strength and cardiovascular capabilities.
- The Robotics Group with Mrs Johnstone – Students engage in building and coding robots, advancing knowledge of visual programming and problem-solving skills.
- The Rock and Water Program (Self-Awareness) with Mrs Robson – Students focus on building confidence and self-reflection.
- Bucket Drumming Group with Mrs Robson - Students develop personal and social confidence.
- Motor Minds Group with Mrs McGowan and Mrs Phiri – Students focus on developing a variety of skills including gross motor, fine motor and self-regulation.
Palmerston Enrichment Program
Transition from primary to middle school is a significant step in a student’s educational journey. Over the past term, some students from Year 5 and 6 have participated in Enrichment Experiences hosted at Palmerston College. These sessions provided our students with the opportunity to explore the dynamics of ‘middle school’ in subjects of their interest. Many of our students have engaged in classes ranging from Humanities, Art, Health/PE, Science and Mathematics.
Sports Day - Thursday 13 June
Get ready to experience a day filled with excitement and team spirit. Our annual Sports Carnival is just around the corner, and we hope to see you all attend this fantastic day. There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks for sale.
A big thank you to Mr Lonergan for organising this fun filled event.
Student Progress Reports
Teachers have been working hard preparing end of semester Progress Reports. It has been great to see the progress that has been made by our hard-working students.
Reports will be sent home Wednesday June 19.
Information provided by the NT Department of Education:
All Northern Territory government schools provide a written report to parents at the end of each semester outlining student achievement. Our student reports outline student progress, achievement and next steps.
In reports, A–E grades show learning against your child’s current year-level standard. See below for further information.
A = The student has achieved well above what is expected for their year level.
B = The student has achieved above what is expected for their year level.
C = The student has achieved what is expected for their year level.
D = The student has achieved below what is expected for their year level.
E = The student has achieved well below what is expected for their year level.
Comments describe the progress made by a student during the semester. Transition students receive a report containing a written comment and effort rating but no A–E grades.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for further information regarding your child’s progress.
We deeply value the partnership between parents and the school community, understanding that together, we play a vital role in developing lifelong learners.
Chief minister’s Reading Challenge – Reading at Home
The Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge encourages students to read more books for pleasure. Notes were sent home earlier this term about the challenge. We encourage all our students to be involved. Students who complete the reading challenge will receive a certificate from the Chief Minister recognising their achievement.
Reading is an important skill for all our students. In our busy world it is more important than ever. Home reading is a good way of supporting your child’s reading and will help your child in all learning areas of school. When your child may have had a busy day and feeling tired, you may like to read one page each in the book.
I want to extend my gratitude to our incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families. Together, we continue to foster a learning and supportive environment. Stay tuned for more exciting events in the weeks ahead. Wishing you all a wonderful month ahead.

In a recent Science project, 3/4 Bhimani participated in an engaging hands-on activity to explore the water cycle. Using common household items such as plastic zip-lock bags, permanent markers, water and clear tape, we created mini water cycle displays. The students decorated their bags with clouds and the sun, filled them with water, and sealed them tightly. We then taped the bags to sunny windows and observed the changes over time.
The students were fascinated as they watched the water evaporate, condense, and "rain" back down inside the bags. This activity vividly demonstrated the water cycle process, making it an unforgettable and educational experience for 3/4 Bhimani students.
This Term 3/4 Gorman has embarked on an exciting project to explore the wonders of Australia and beyond. They created colourful and informative posters showcasing their understanding of Australian geography, the significance of First Nations land, environmental impacts, and sustainable practices.
The students drew maps of Australia, highlighting important places, natural landmarks, major cities, state lines, and the capital city. They also identified and included the name of the First Nations land they live on, deepening their cultural awareness.
To understand the environment better, our young learners showed examples of renewable and non-renewable resources using pictures and drawings. They also illustrated three simple but effective sustainable practices like recycling, saving water, and reducing plastic use.
This project not only deepened their understanding of geography and environmental science but also improved their research and presentation skills. Well done to all our year 3 and 4 students for their hard work and creativity!
The Preschool students have been busy preparing for the upcoming Sports Day by practicing the different activities they will be participating in. All Preschool students are invited to attend the Sports Day on Thursday 13th June. Since it is not Group 1 and 3s Preschool days parents will have to stay with their children if they come as they will not count in our ratios. All students please wear your sports uniform on this day. Preschool students will be participating in a running race on the oval before partaking in Preschool only activities behind the Science block. Some of these activities include: a sack race, egg and spoon race, throwing activity and a pool noodle relay. Parents are encouraged to come and join in with the fun. The day will begin at 820am on the Basketball court with Preschoolers finishing up before recess. Groups 2 and 4 please come to Preschool first as we will begin our day normally before joining in with the Sports Day. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Amy Malan at the Preschool.
On Wednesday the 6th of June, our BEAT Choir attended the Cluster rehearsal with all the other schools who will be performing with us on September 5. This year’s theme is ‘Home’ and all of the songs relate to this theme. Our choir is busy learning the 11 songs in two parts. This can be very tricky when we are trying to sing our parts. One of our favourite songs is ‘Lead the Way’.
Our performance night will be Thursday September 5, at 6:30pm at the Darwin Entertainment Centre. Keep a watch out on the DEC website for when ticket sales go live https://www.yourcentre.com.au/.
What is a place that you have visited that you would like to revisit and why?
Scotland. The Highlands give off a feeling of magic that I have not experienced anywhere else! And Scotland has the best Sticky Date Pudding I have ever eaten!
What is one thing you still have from when you were a child?
Teddy Bears. Lots and lots of Teddy Bears
If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be and why?
My family. They all live in Melbourne and I miss our weekly family dinners.
If you were to give one book to all your friends, what would it be and why?
The Bronze Horseman. A brilliant mix of history and romance.
What is a place that you have visited that you would like to revisit and why?
I want to visit Canada again as it is a beautiful part of the world, with the clearest coldest rivers. I only got to visit a very small part of it, so I would like to go back and visit other parts of it.
What is one thing you still have from when you were a child?
I still have two soft toys I had when I was a child. I’m not sure where or who I got them from.
If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be and why?
I would love to sit down and have dinner with Elvis Presley as I enjoy listening to his music and I think he would have had an interesting life.
If you were to give one book to all your friends, what would it be and why?
I enjoy reading romance novels, so I’m not sure my friends and family read them.
Vacation Care
We are very excited for our June/July holidays and have opened up limited additional spaces for this vacation care. Please view our June/July Program. OSHC families have been sent information on how to book via the OWNA app. Bookings close Friday 14th June, unless booked out earlier.
Hours of Operation
Our operating hours are 6.30am-5.30pm. Pick up after this time will incur a charge of $20 and $1 for every minute after 5.30pm. We understand that sometimes you may be running a few minutes late due to unforeseen circumstances, and previously we have waived this fee, however we are experiencing an influx of continual late pickups which require staff to stay back, potentially making them late for their commitments. All late pickups will be documented and late fees will be charged via OWNA. We thank you for your understanding.
On Sunday 2nd June, nine students from Zuccoli Primary School competed in the NT City2Surf Macca’s Mile. This group ran 1.609km along the Nightcliff foreshore with students from other Darwin and Palmerston schools.
In the lead up to the event, students participated in before school run training and were encouraged to be active outside school. By making time to “Huff and Puff” they learnt about the importance of good health and regular fitness.
A huge congratulations to Delaney, Darcy, Logan, Charles, Isabel, Ruby, Zoe, Isla and Elsie for committing their time and energy into this event. You should be very proud!
Fred's Pass Show - Kitchen and Garden
Have you heard how amazing the Zuccoli Primary School Kitchen and Garden Program did at the recent Freds Pass Show? Students and staff worked very hard in the lead up to the Freds Pass Show and should be proud of their efforts. The Kitchen and Garden entered student work, both individual and group work, across various classes which can be seen in the tables below.
Kitchen classes prepared for the show as they completed their term work on healthy eating which included creating healthy lunch boxes. Some of the lunch boxes were entered into the show. Students were also busy making scones, cakes and patty cakes using garden produce such as sweet potato. Several of these delicious treats were also entered into the show. The Sustainability Squad also entered Paw Paw jam and Rosella cordial.

Garden classes prepared for the show by completing Design and Technology tasks including pest deterrents and novelty pots using recycled materials. Some of the student creations were chosen to be entered into the Freds Pass Show. We were also very pleased to showcase the school Garden again this year which demonstrated the hard work from all classes from Year 1 to 6. The sixteen student made scarecrows really made an impression and of course, the beautiful garden flourishing due to the hard work of students and staff.
