Dear parents/carers/guardians
I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday break. As we embark on a new term, I am excited to welcome everyone back to school. We have many exciting activities and learning opportunities planned for the upcoming weeks and I look forward to seeing the enthusiasm and dedication of our students.
I am particularly looking forward to my role as Acting Principal this term. Building strong connections with parents and the community is a priority for me and I am eager to collaborate with you to support our students’ growth and success. Check out the invitation to come and have a ‘cuppa’ with me on Wednesday after assembly (31 July) in the staffroom.
Staff Professional Development Day
On Monday 15 July Zuccoli Primary School Staff had the pleasure of working with Kelly Oldfield, a Behaviour Specialist based in Western Australia.
The PD was a valuable opportunity for staff to confirm and be challenged by strategies focussing on positive reinforcement, consistent expectations and resilience-building.
5/6 Camp
Our 5/6 classes will be off on their exciting camp adventure. I want to wish all of you a fantastic and memorable time away. This camp is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn, grow and create lasting memories.
A huge thank you to all the staff members for their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond to make this experience possible. Your hard work and commitment are truly appreciated.
And to our amazing staff, brace yourselves for a few sleepless nights – we all know how lively our students can be! Not sure Uber deliver coffee out that way.
Have a great time and I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures when you return.

1/2 Martin are Marvelous at Mathematics
Having just returned from the mid-year school holiday break and with students itching to learn, 1/2 Martin were keen and eager to just jump right in with our Mathematics lessons this term… so we did!
Jaeger, Ebony, Lance, Isla, Ditya, Kinsley and Brooke looked at different three-dimensional objects in the classroom and had a go at building some that were known to them by using various materials.
Marcel faced off against Archyer in a giant noughts and crosses game and Darcy worked hard to create a scene that was familiar to him using three-dimensional coloured blocks.
We certainly are creative learners in 1/2 Martin!
1/2 Thompson class celebrated NAIDOC Week in Week 1.
The 2024 theme is Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud.
Students learnt about the poster titled ‘Urapun Muy’, from the Kalaw Kawaw Ya dialect of the Top Western Islands of the Torres Strait, means ‘One Fire’.
The title of this work pays homage to Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal people everywhere, as we all have that one fire: our passion for our culture.
Students used the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flag, to draw their own fire using chalk and pastels.
In the kitchen this week, Transition classes have been focusing on safety in the kitchen environment and learning about the space around them. Year 1/2 students have been learning about where their food comes from and how it may grow or be harvested. Students in Years 3-6 have been learning about preserving and preserving methods. This has included harvesting over 15 kilos of cucumbers from our school garden. Cucumbers were dried, ground and also made into bread and butter pickles.
Students also chopped vegetables to use on a platter. Using dehydrated ingredients including onion powder, dried dill crushed, cucumber powder, lemon powder and Greek yoghurt, students made a Dehydrated Tzatziki Dip.
Attention: If required, could parents/guardians please contact the school to update any dietary needs or requirements. We are happy to accommodate for this, in order for your child to take part in our kitchen lessons. This assists in running the program smoothly.
Thanking you,
The Kitchen and Garden Team
Congratulations to Sharnae McCoy for being selected as a CSIRO Young Future Shaper.
Sharnae was 1 of 25 students chosen from across Australia to be part of this innovative program. Throughout 2024, she will work with like-minded students and CSIRO scientists to build her confidence, capability and connection with STEM. Sharnae will have the opportunity to attend a STEM camp, design a group adventure or create her own resource pack. It sounds like a lot of fun! Well done Sharnae.
Welcome to Term 3. We hope you all enjoyed some quality time together during the mid-year break.
This term is set to be another busy one. Students in Groups 1 & 3 attended their first whole-school assembly on Wednesday, Week 1 and will continue to participate every fortnight. We were so proud of their efforts to transition to the hall, listen attentively and learn a little bit more about what happens at Primary school.
In Week 4, Preschool will host our Art Spectacular fundraising event. Students have been working hard to create individual artwork. We can’t wait to show our work to you.
Please remember:
All groups visit the library to return and borrow books. Please send a cloth bag labelled with your child’s name to protect the books they borrow. Hats are important for students to be sun safe. Please check your child has a hat labelled with their name in their bag as some appear to be missing.
The weather has been much cooler in the mornings. If your child brings a jumper to school, remember to label it so we can return it to you.
Thank you,
The Preschool Team
