On Tuesday of week 7 1/2 Nowland and the other year 1/2’s went on an excursion to the Darwin Museum and Art Gallery. As part of our whole school inquiry question ‘How do we connect to the community and our world’ we went to view our local history, making sure we stopped by to look at the Cyclone Tracy exhibition. We took the bus leaving here at 9:30am and arrived at the Museum at about 10am. Next, we went and explored the different areas of the Museum. At 11:30am everyone come together and sat on the grass eating our lunch looking at the ocean view. The bus came and picked us up and we came back to school. A good time was had by all.
The students in Blue 2 have just completed their poetry writing assessments and I’m very proud to celebrate their incredible efforts and achievements!
Each student completed their assessments with outstanding originality and creativity, showcasing a remarkable level of effort and imagination. Students were encouraged to use similes, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and puns in their writing (which is very tricky when writing a short poem!) and each of them put in an awesome effort to include all of these in their writing.
Their published works are proudly displayed in our classroom and are a testament to their hard work. The students in Blue 2 are very proud of their accomplishments and are excited to share their poems with the school community!

Term 3 has been flying by and we are learning so much in Preschool. We have begun our inquiry unit all about our community. The students have loved learning about the different places we need in a community, about the community helpers and how communities can look different to ours. They have also become experts at brainstorming by sharing their ideas of what our Zuccoli Community looks like. We are very excited to work with our Year 3/4 buddy class to build our own community out of recyclable materials. This project will begin this week so if you have any recyclable materials, please send them to the Preschool.
We have also been very busy with events this Term. In Week 6, we had our Book Parade where preschool students from Group 2 and 4 attended their first ever assembly. The students LOVED seeing all the different costumes and showing off their own creations too. Last week, we attended the Father’s Day Stall where students were able to pick out something special for their Dads, Grandads or special persons in their lives. Our preschoolers loved this experience and have even requested that we have our own shop at Preschool for our indoor investigations. We have also been busy practicing our dance for the Whole School Concert in Week 10. We can’t wait to show off all the dance skills we have been learning.
We have some fun and exciting learning experiences happening over the last couple of weeks of the Term!

To value add to our investigation into bees during garden lessons, selected students from Transition and Year 3/4 took part in an incursion from Coastal Nectar. Beekeeper Tom shared his vast knowledge of European honeybees and Australian Native Bees with students.
Students learned many interesting facts about bees. They are now considered ‘bee experts’ and will be sharing their knowledge with other students.
We would like to thank Beekeeper Tom for his visit to our school.

2024 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant - Save the Bees, Save the Trees
The Kitchen Garden Team are thrilled to announce that we have received a 2024 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our project, Save the Bees, Save the Trees.
The aim of our project is for students to understand the impacts on the environment by attracting bees to our garden and to reduce our environmental footprint through paper recycling. The children will be involved in creating and observing a stingless native bee sanctuary in our school garden and effectively reusing and recycling paper across the school. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include educating students on how vital bees are to the planet and teaching the 4 Rs resulting in a sustainable future.
Zuccoli Primary School is one of 1,041 primary schools and early learning centres across Australia to receive a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions.
Transition students are learning about the importance of bees in our school garden and we recently received our native bee hive. We are excited to find a home for the hive and introduce some native stingless bees to the hive.
The Sustainability Squad and students from Year 3/4 Machacek will be driving the paper recycling for the school. The plan is for paper recycling to be underway in all classrooms before the end of term.
We are grateful for the support from the Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant in assisting us with our Save the Bees, Save the Trees projects.
