As we reach the midway point of Term 4, it's a wonderful time to reflect on the incredible work happening at our school. Our dedicated staff continue to go above and beyond, and I’m thrilled to share that some of our team members have recently been recognised for their outstanding contributions.
Firstly, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to those staff members who were finalists in the Northern Territory Teachers Excellence Awards.
Karen Tagumasi - Inclusion Educator of the Year
This award recognises educators who embed inclusive practices enabling the inclusion of all students access to high quality education and to learn in a safe and supportive learning environment, so they can reach their potential.
Carolyn Edwards - Principal of the Year
This award recognises principals who inspire, motivate, exemplify strong leadership and make a difference to the lives of young people.
This event was a culminating celebration for World Teachers' Day, with the theme "Taking Your Hats Off to Teachers." It served as a reminder that every staff member at Zuccoli Primary School is a teacher in their own right, playing a vital role in each child’s school journey. Their commitment to excellence is a true reflection of the passion and hard work they bring to our school every day.
On World Teachers' Day some of our students dressed as teachers and looked very much the part.
We would like to thank the Hon Marie-Clare Boothby (Brennan MLA) and Hon Lia Finocchiaro (Chief Minister and Spillet MLA) for their contribution to our morning starter drink provided by the Coda Coffee cart ($150). We would also like to thank Sheryll Baroro for making the most delicious cupcakes for our staff.
Additionally, we are incredibly proud of our staff who have received special commendations from Charles Darwin University for ‘excellence in mentoring’. This recognition honors their dedication to supporting preservice teachers, fostering professional growth and guiding the next generation of educators. Their commitment to professional learning in mentoring goes a long way in strengthening the future of education.
Ms Melanie Johnstone
Mr Aris Banaga
Mrs Paige Stephens
Mrs Noelee Mitchell
Ms Kylie Sideras
It’s moments like these that remind us of the impact our school community has within and beyond our classrooms. Thank you to all staff for your ongoing commitment and congratulations to our celebrated teachers for these well-deserved accolades.
Lastly, our preschool placements are filling up fast. If you are wanting your child to attend Zuccoli Preschool next year please fill out an enrolment form at your earliest convenience.
Let’s keep up the momentum as we move into the second half of the term and continue to make a positive impact on our students' learning journeys.
Thanks Elizabeth

This Term Transition Eade students are learning Media Arts. It is a great hands-on, play-based subject that teaches students that art can be displayed through many different forms. So far, we have made a special place out of Lego, used clay to make an animal and used the Ipad app “Stop Motion” to make a short film. Students have thoroughly enjoyed these weekly lessons.
This semester in PE, students have explored a range of activities aimed at developing fitness, teamwork and coordination including basketball, cricket, skipping and gymnastics. In basketball, they focused on dribbling, passing and shooting, while in cricket, they honed their batting, bowling and fielding skills. Skipping challenged their endurance and agility through creative routines and gymnastics encouraged balance, strength and flexibility with a variety of floor exercises and apparatus work. Throughout the term, students have not only improved their physical skills but also gained confidence, teamwork and a love for being active.
In 1/2 Sideras students have used their knowledge on the structure of fairy tales to adapt Jack and the Beanstalk. Students could change one element of the story and had to rewrite the story using their chosen element. The class is enjoying writing narratives and are especially excited to see The Gruffalo when we go on excursion in Week 7.
Our class has had a busy start to Term 4!
Our class wrote fantastic recounts about their school holidays. There were lots of water park visits, shopping trips and play dates with friends!
The class has been learning about factual texts, particularly around the topic of animals. Here are some of the students’ guided drawings of a wombat, labelled with the wombat’s physical features.
This semester, two groups of enthusiastic Zuccoli students from Years 3 to 6 have been engaged in exciting, hands-on social skills programs. One group is led by Mr. Evan Dixon and the other by Ms. Melanie Johnstone, both focusing on developing teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. From building towering spaghetti structures to crafting functional catapults, creating the longest paper chains, and designing intricate LEGO mazes, each activity has challenged students to collaborate, communicate clearly, and persevere through obstacles. These programs are part of a broader suite of Prevention, Intervention, and Extension (PIE) opportunities offered to all Zuccoli students from Transition to Year 6. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to the exciting challenges still to come!
We are so proud of our circus performers for entertaining with such passion at our Big Top Concert that we hosted a pizza lunch for them to say thank you.
We are currently underway with planning our next vacation care calendar and would love your feedback. If you would like to see a new activity or a previous activity return for the final school holidays please contact Terry Wattus:
