1/2 Redway

This term, 1/2 Redway has been exploring emotions and self-regulation using the Zones of Regulation framework. Each morning, students participate in a Zones of Regulation check-in, where they reflect on how they are feeling and identify which zone they are in. This daily practice helps students build awareness of their emotions and develop strategies to manage them effectively.

We have been learning about what our bodies feel like in different zones and discussing how some emotions can feel comfortable while others may feel uncomfortable. Understanding that all emotions are natural and that we can use tools to help us regulate has been an important focus in our learning.

To support their self-regulation skills, students have created their own Zones of Regulation toolbox. These toolboxes are filled with strategies that students can use in the classroom to help them feel more comfortable and ready to learn. Some of these tools include breathing exercises, movement breaks, rest time and using sensory tools.

It has been wonderful to see students developing a stronger understanding of their emotions and taking ownership of their self-regulation strategies.
